Jenine was integral to the smooth running of the project from start to finish. Her attention to detail, organisational skills and work ethic are brilliant. It was a delight to work with her"</image:title>

<image:title>Volunteer Management - “Working with Jenine as a volunteer at Ikon was one of the most positive experiences of my early career within the arts sector. Jenine encouraged me to immerse myself in all the aspects I wanted to explore within the gallery setting, and the combination of generosity with her time and openness to share her experiences through hands-on learning was truly invaluable. Her positive and nurturing approach as a mentor allowed me the space and insight to develop my skills at pace. My confidence blossomed and I soon racked up tangible skills that are still with me as I develop a successful career within the arts.”</image:title>

<image:title>Mentoring - “Jenine was my Project Mentor for the Birmingham leg of my first international touring exhibition Short Circuit which later travelled to Venice and Copenhagen. It was a really enjoyable experience working with her and her input was invaluable particularly as the scale of the whole project was very sizeable and a little overwhelming at times. As an Independent Curator, it was great to receive her support and advice throughout the exhibition delivery process. She was an excellent sounding board and she is extremely knowledgeable particularly with regard to budgeting, funding and best practice. I really look forward to working together again.”</image:title>

<image:caption>Throughout 2018 I worked with Flatpack on Birmingham 68, a project supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund as Project Coordinator. Known internationally as a year of seismic change, Birmingham 68 explored what the landmark year meant for the city. The project comprised a dizzying array of activities, including an entire strand of programming in the 2018 Flatpack Festival including exhibitions, screenings, walks, talks and workshops. Following the festival we recruited and delivered an active volunteer programme, artist commissions, oral histories, reunions, podcasts and a publication.</image:caption>

<image:title>Projects - Hinterlands - Hinterlands 2018</image:title>
<image:caption>Hinterlands was a national programme of socially engaged arts projects along waterways across England and Wales. Initiated by the Canal & River Trust as part of their Arts on the Waterways programme, Hinterlands sought to engage communities living in close proximity to canals through art. I worked along the Birmingham Mainline Canal between Brindleyplace and the site of the old Chance Glassworks in Oldbury, West Midlands. This stretch of canal was particularly important in its historical significance during the Industrial Revolution, connecting the newly important city of Birmingham with the coal mines of the Black Country, feeding the factories that sprang up along the route including Matthew Boulton’s Soho Foundry and Chance Glassworks.</image:caption>

<image:title>Projects - Home of Metal - “Jenine is highly motivated and a committed member of the team, going beyond the call of duty to ensure a project is delivered to the highest quality, with an excellent work ethic. She took a lead role in managing the extremely complex task of liaising with a number of lenders, both national and international, ensuring that all associated logistics were carefully managed both in terms of time and within budget. In addition she navigated relationships between the museum institution, freelance teams and volunteers, establishing clear communication and overseeing related tasks to support the delivery of this highly ambitious exhibition.”</image:title>

<image:caption>In Summer 2019 I worked with Supersonic Festival as their Volunteer Coordinator. Returning for its 15th edition, Supersonic craft extraordinary events for curious audiences in Birmingham’s creative district Digbeth. Supersonic attracts a loyal and varied fanbase, with audience members and volunteers alike traveling internationally to share in the collective joy the festival creates. In 2019 the festival occupied 3 venues across the city and welcomed the return of many familiar faces to its pool of volunteers, as well as a healthy cohort of new recruits. True to Supersonics ethos, more experienced volunteers helped show newcomers the ropes, ensuring they had all the support needed or know who to contact if they didn’t.</image:caption>

<image:caption>2019-2021 In 2019 I was awarded an Arts Council Developing Your Creative Practice Grant to undertake a programme of professional development and research my interest in commissioning contemporary art and cultural programming for the heritage sector. Since becoming a freelancer I have sought to bring together my experience and expertise in the delivery and management of contemporary arts projects with my interest in heritage and social history. Artists working in response to heritage contexts has been an area of practice that has always interested me curatorially, but I have often found myself underwhelmed and frustrated by what appeared to be a lack of contemporary art expertise in bringing these project to fruition, or just seeing the same artists being approached to create such commissions. Furthermore, I found that colleagues in the contemporary art world spoke a different language to those working in the heritage context, which intrigued and frustrated me. Through a planned series of visits to ‘best-practice’ examples and interviews with artists, curators and producers working in the sector, I sought to explore and unpick some of these frustrations, gain a deeper understanding of the motivations for doing this kind of work and talk to some artists who’ve been commissioned to respond to the heritage context.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Throughout the Summer of 2021 I worked with Birmingham-based artist duo and Warley Woods Community Trust to deliver Woodland Tales, a community project for the people of Smethwick. The project included a packed schedule of events and workshops which saw the artists create interventions throughout the woods including a social sculpture where they hosted creative activities. Hipkiss & Graney made a new folktale inspired by the ecology and landscapes of Warley Woods, working collaboratively with local businesses, staff and volunteers of Warley Woods Community Trust, local families and year six pupils at Brandhall Primary School. Through a series of workshops the artists bought to life the folk tale through newly commissioned music, sculpture, costumes and performance.</image:caption>

Their practice explores ideas around collectivity, community and counter-movements through socially engaged workshops and largescale interactive installations and performances. Their performative works discuss political and environmental issues, often involving magic realism and fictional organisations.</image:title>
<image:caption>Woodland Tales was created commissioned by Warley Woods Community Trust and produced and performed by Hipkiss & Graney in collaboration with a range of talented artists and producers: Synthia Oenga, narrator for the audiobook and live performance. Woodland Tales audiobook was written by Jonathan Graney and Gavin Curtis, narrated by Synthia Oenga, with music and sound design by Anna Palmer and Beth Belis. <image:title>Erbe - About Erbe - About Erbe</image:title>
<image:caption>In 2022 Erbe will curate a programme of newly commissioned artworks, public workshops, talks, walks, digital content and publications which explore this corner of the rural West Midlands. The programme will focus on the fruitfulness of the Wyre Forest’s natural resources, connecting with the woodland as a means of investigating sustainability through a mixed programme of arts, heritage and wellbeing events. Projects will take place across a number of locations including a tepee venue in the heart of the Wyre Forest, Ruskin Land and Bewdley Town Centre. Erbe has received generous support from Arts Council England through the National Lottery Project Grants scheme, Severn Arts Partnership and The Guild of St George. Erbe is produced and curated by Jenine McGaughran.</image:caption>
